Under the Educational Reform Law of 1993, each public school must have a School Council. The School Council is comprised of elected and appointed representatives of the school and community. The law is very clear and states, "The number of parent representatives must be equal to the number of professional school representatives." The law clearly defines the School Council's responsibility. The Councils are to assist in the identification of the educational needs of the school, review the school's annual budget, and formulate a yearly School Improvement Plan. The meetings are always open to the public.
